George Kramb and Patrick Frank started PatientPartner (formerly called Rightdevice) to help educate and guide patients through medical decisions. Think of it like a combination of Yelp and a support group, but for patients undergoing surgeries. Since launching in March 2017, Right Devices has raised $2 million from Alethea Capital.

It is a rapidly growing, evolving, and expanding industry that aims to make the lives of consumers as easy, informed, and efficient as possible. We are increasingly seeing consumer technology dominate across numerous industries, especially throughout the COVID-era which has brought technical and virtual innovations to new heights. Opinion: What Healthcare Can Learn From Other Consumer Tech Industries

Consumer-centric technology has rapidly evolved consumer decision-making and changed the way we make purchasing decisions in almost every aspect of our lives. We feel more empowered through information and technology than ever before. We have a constant need for instant gratification as a result of our actions, and we demand as much information as possible prior to making any decision, but especially key decisions that possess the potential to impact our current and future health. This has allowed for more transparency from the companies and brands that provide us with technological and data-driven solutions. This is a great thing, but it has also forced traditional industries to move to platform-based solutions in order to reach larger audiences and keep up with the efficiencies brought about by this increase in demand.

Using AI to Improve the Patient Surgery Experience

What are the biggest hurdles with integrating technology in healthcare?

In addition, as a new technology company, not only is it crucial that patients trust you, but the industry must trust you. You want the industry to be able to send patients to you and champion your technology solution as a trusted resource and not one that works against them. This is crucial because patients wil,l in most cases, rely on a physicians’ recommendation more than anyone else. Technology cannot just replace that trust, it has to supplement it.
